Dan Vona joined the coaching staff at JCC in 2017.  From Silver Creek, in high school he was the 1985 NYS boys' golf champion, 1987 Buffalo district individual and a runner-up for the International Junior Masters, and a Porter Cup participant in 1989.  He attended college at Penn State from 1990-93, earning his bachelor's degree in Recreation/Parks Management and Business.  He was on the PSU golf team as well, winning the JMU tournament at Kingsmill Resort, placing in the top 10 several times, and earning a PGA class A certification.  He worked for 15 years at Marriott Golf Operation as well as the head golf professional and/or general manager at numerous resorts and country clubs in Florida and Georgia.  He was the winner of several club championships during his time there.  He has had 10 years of high school golf coaching experience, and also serves presently as the JV boys basketball coach at Silver Creek.  In total he has been teaching golf in one capacity or another for 20 years.  Over his career he played in over 30 American Junior Golf Association tournaments, and was able to play against PGA Tour superstars such as Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, David Duval, and others.
