Jayhawks Survive Lakeland for Seventh Straight Win

JAMESTOWN, NY - The Jamestown Community College women's basketball team made it seven straight wins, topping Lakeland Community College 60-56 at home Wednesday night.

JCC fell behind early, 12-7, before a pair of Alyson Canfield threes helped Jamestown take its first lead at 17-16.

The freshmen from Jamestown ended the game with a team-high 17. The Jayhawks took a five-point edge to the bench after one.

Their lead swelled to 11 early in the second quarter after Tyesha Wilson made a transition layup for her only bucket of the day.

Just before halftime, Jennica Berens gave Jamestown its biggest lead with a jump shot to push things to 37-25.

The sophomore finished the night with six points, five rebounds, and five assists.

Jamestown's lead dwindled to three in the fourth, when Mbali Mhlanga grabbed a rebound and got the reward for two of her nine points to go with a team-high 15 rebounds.

Things tightened up late in the fourth as Lakeland tied the game at 49-49.

That's when Jerica Barnard scored six of the next nine points, with a three from Canfield in the middle to push the advantage back to seven.

JCC costed from their to the 60-56 win.

The victory moves Jamestown to 12-2 on the season.

Jamestown starts league play on Saturday as they travel to Erie Community College for a 1:00 PM tip.
