JCC's Courtney Martin Continues her Basketball Career at Carlow University

JAMESTOWN, NY - Jamestown Community College's Courtney Martin (Bemus Point, NY / Maple Grove Central) is continuing her academic and athletic careers at Carlow University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she will major in surgical technology.

"I chose Carlow for the great academics and great athletics. It is small but big enough. It's close to home but far enough away. Pittsburgh is a great city full of opportunity," said Martin.

The local product leaves JCC after two seasons on the women's basketball team, starting 12 of 17 games as a sophomore. During her time as a Jayhawk, Courtney averaged over six points per game, with over six rebounds per game and a block and assist per game.

"Coach Turnbull, over the last eight years I have known him, held me to a high standard to perform on the court and off, and he's a big reason I'm transferring from a Jayhawk to become a Celtic," she added.

Martin appeared in over 40 games in the green and gold, giving her plenty of chances to create several lasting memories.

"My freshman year, when me and Coach were in Cleveland on my birthday, we played in a TRI-C tournament, and I had two double-doubles that weekend and played with Covid, and Coach got me a Crumbl cookie afterwards for the hotel. And mine and coach's Starbucks runs on away trips in the morning when nobody else was awake my freshman year," laughed Courtney.

Martin leaves JCC with a lot of praise for those around her, who helped her keep her nose to the grindstone.

"Shoutout to my mom and dad, Rich and Nicole, and Dan Towell for being hard on me to do my best every day and to always relax and play my best because I was capable of great things and for being my biggest fans the last two years. And to Coach Turnbull, from the time I was eight years old to now being 20, he never left my side and was always there pushing me to be a great person and player everyday even if that meant love and hate on and off for the past 12 years. I couldn't do what I have done without those four people who made a great impact on my success at JCC," she mentioned.

Martin and the rest of the Carlow Celtics will start the 2025 season in October.
