JAMESTOWN, NY - Jamestown Community College (JCC) is excited to announce Todd Carson as the new head coach of Jayhawk wrestling. 

"We're thrilled to have a new leader of our wrestling program here at JCC," said Athletic Director George Sisson. "Todd (Carson) has been around our mat birds for the last few years, and I witnessed both his love for wrestling and for our student-athletes. Those two aspects of coaching are a great foundation for Carson as the leader of the Jayhawks wrestling team," added Sisson. "Wrestling is a sport I have been passionate about my entire life," said coach Carson. "I'm excited about this opportunity because it's a blank slate for me to take over this team. I get to implement all the things I thought about for the past two years as an assistant coach. I want to install new systems of training and drilling and create a winning culture. I want to create a safe and open culture for winning and being authentic," finished Carson.

Carson moves up the ranks of the Jamestown coaching staff after being the lead assistant the past two years and a volunteer assistant the season before that. Prior to joining JCC, Carson enjoyed 15 years of coaching experience at various levels of athletics, both as a wrestling coach and a soccer coach. Before he grabbed a whistle, Carson began wrestling at the age of eight. His scholastic career saw him place at state qualifiers three times, including taking third in New York state as a junior, which ultimately helped him earn a scholarship to wrestle for the University at Buffalo. The dedication it took to reach those levels as an individual is what Carson desires in his future Jayhawks.

"I am looking for the work ethic, the attitude, the positivity. I want the guys who are thankful to compete. We need guys who aren't going to quit. I want scrappers. We need kids with grit and fortitude. The most important thing is the grades. You can't see that on the mat, but you can see the attitude and intelligence on a mat that will be a good student-athlete. We always talk education. It isn't just about wrestling," mentioned Carson.

With his over 30 years of experience in the sport or wrestling, Carson is eager to get working on his roster for 2026-27 and beyond.

"The first goal is to fill the room. We want enough student-athletes to give everyone a good opportunity to practice to their fullest and grow as an athlete, while fulfilling their potential," he said.

Carson's accolades aren't limited to just the wrestling mat. He received the Presidential Lifetime Achievment Award from President Joe Biden for his work as a coach and mentor. 

"The sport of wrestling has given me so much that I feel I owe it to wrestling to give back to the next generation. I can show the next Jayhawks how to challenge life with ferocity," said an excited Carson.

When Carson isn't in the JCC wrestling room, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with his dog Bear.

The 2026-27 Jamestown Community College wrestling season will begin in October.
