JCC Names Former All-American Nick Coreno New Head Wrestling Coach

JCC wrestling coach Nick Coreno

JAMESTOWN, NY - Jamestown Community College (JCC) is excited to announce Nick Coreno as the new head coach of Jayhawk wrestling.

"To say we're thrilled to have a former All-American wrestler taking over the program here at JCC is an understatement," said Athletic Director George Sisson. "Nick (Cerone) has a college wrestling resume that is hard to match and, even more importantly, brings an academic standard that may be unmatched," finished Sisson. "Being able to give the kids a shot at achieving their wrestling and academic goals is my top mission," said new JCC wrestling coach Nick Cerone. "I am excited to build a culture where it's not only a family but also a brotherhood within the JCC wrestling room. It is a great opportunity to give back to the wrestling community. Also, stay involved in a sport that I am very passionate about," he added.

Coreno is a 2025 graduate of Gannon University, where he was an All-American wrestler at 165 pounds and a two-time Division Two national qualifier. "My recent success on the college wrestling scene allows me to demonstrate what it takes to be successful on and off the mats," mentioned Coreno.

As important as winning is to the new Jamestown resident, Coach Coreno was also an academic All-American for the Golden Knights; excelling in the classroom will be an expectation for his Jayhawks. "I treat school as a non-negotiable. JCC can set up our wrestlers on the right path for their futures," said Coreno.

While this is Coreno's first stint as a college coach, he has a clear conception for his program from day one. "The vision is to build a team where guys are excited and motivated to come wrestle. Not only a lot of success on the mats, but also a lot of fun," said Coreno.

As for the coaching style of the four-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference scholar-athlete, "I'm going to be on the mats. I want to be an example who is able to show my techniques and wrestling style. The guys will be able to learn and train better because I will be able to drill with them in live scenarios," mentioned Coreno.

That all leads to what Coreno is looking for in his future Jayhawks. "I would like to see our students in practice and competition giving everything they have. Not back down to any opponents or situations," said Coreno. "I am looking for guys who love to wrestle. Ones that have big goals and are willing to take the steps necessary to get better in all aspects of the sport. We're looking to grab guys who have goals to make it to the top from the tri-state area and beyond," he added.

Coach Coreno and the 2026-27 Jamestown Community College wrestling squad will begin their season in October.
