Jayhawk Ladies Fly Over Competition in WNYACs; Men Claim Second in Home Event

JAMESTOWN, NY - What's old is new for the Jamestown Community College (JCC) swimming and diving teams, as the women's team wins its second straight Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) meet of the year, while the men claim another second-place finish.

Things heated up quickly for the ladies, with Sophia Gervasio winning the 1,000 free by over 14 seconds, and JCC's Ella Fosberg brought home third.

The women kept claiming the podium spots in the 200 free, where Emily Swan took second, less than a second behind the lead pace; Desiree Putt was third, and Addison Lawson fourth.

Next up was the 50 free sprints. Jalyn Linton missed first by less than two-tenths of a second. Ashlynn Swan earned fifth.

Switching to the individual medleys (IM), it was all Jamestown, with Anna Jones capturing first and Haleigha Hardy second.

In the diving well, Ashlynn Swan showed why she finished fourth in the nation a year ago, winning the one-meter by over 60 points.

The 100 butterfly saw a second and third finish from Jamestown's Linton and Jones.

100 free was another good event for JCC; Emily Swan won by over four seconds, with Gervasio bagging third.

Jamestown had a great showing in the 100 back; Putt won the event by 16 seconds, ahead of teammate Ella Fosberg in second.

500 free was another one-two finish for the Jayhawks, Lawson taking the crown and Gervasio second.

The 100 IM placed JCC in second, third, and fourth, with Emily Swan, Jones, and Putt doing the hard work.

Hardy and Fosberg finished second and fourth in the 100 breaststroke.

Lastly, the 400 free relay saw JCC take home first with the team of Ashlynn Swan, Lawson, Hardy, and Linton. The quartet was almost 40 seconds ahead of second.

On the men's side, it was another win in the 1,000 free with Owen Slojkowski bringing in the first-place finish.

In the 200 free, Zach Johnson was just edged out for first place. Teammates Noah Miles, Carl Alexander, and Noah Miles earned fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the short 50 free, Kyle Dean was outtouched for first by a tenth, and Cameron Milewski claimed fourth.

On to diving, where Milewski took second, just behind Monroe.

To the 100 butterfly, where Noah Miles brought home third and Slojkowski fourth.

Milewski kept his strong performance in the 100 free with a third-place showing.

The men also shined in the 100 back; Dean broke a program record with his 57.74, and Randall Hall earned a third.

500 free saw Alexander nail down another top-three finish for JCC with a third.

The 100 IM had Dean bringing home third, less than a second off the leader's pace.

Johnson cruised to a first in the 100 breaststroke, winning by over a second. Kyle Camp finished in fifth.

Jamestown took third in the 400 free relay with the team of Johnson, Slojkowski, Hall, and Camp.

"Overall, both programs had a successful meet. Saturday we head to Monroe for the last part of our first quarter of the season. It will be a glance into where we are at. We are looking for continued success for both programs," said head coach Todd Conklin.

After two WNYAC meets on the year, the JCC women are a perfect 6-0, and the men sit at 4-2. As coach Conklin said, next up for both teams is an invite at Monroe Community College on Saturday, November 16th, at 1:00 PM.
