Jayhawks Drop Series To Monroe CC

ROCHESTER - In their first Western New York Athletic Conference matchup of the season, the Jamestown Community College baseball team fell to Division II Monroe Community College Tuesday afternoon.

 

Game 1: Monroe Community College 10 - Jamestown Community College 0

The Jayhawks (1-4) collected a pair of hits in the first of two, with first baseman Kenny Nickson III (Erie, PA/Erie HS) and catcher Kameron Melendez (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) getting on the stat sheet.

 

After falling behind by two runs in the first, JCC hit a one-out single to get the offense going. Melendez got on base two a two-out single but the runners were left stranded.

 

Pitcher Tanner Potter (Trumansburg, NY/Trumansburg HS) earned the loss on the bump, giving up seven hits, striking out three, and giving up eight runs. Alex Kemery (Youngsville, PA/Youngsville HS) went the rest of the distance, giving up one hit while striking out a pair of batters.

 

Game 2: Monroe Community College 12 - Jamestown Community College 2

First baseman Yordangel Gonzalez (Miami, FL/Miami Jackson Senior HS) led the way with hits on the day, collecting two with four batters also getting in the hit column. Left fielder Wyatt Hennessy (Mukwonago, WI/Mukwonago HS) added another extra base hit on the day with a triple. 

 

The Jayhawks got on the board early in the second game as Nickson III got the offense going, scoring on an error to go up 1-0. The Tribunes did answer in the bottom of the second, getting that run back.

 

After giving up six runs in the bottom of the third, JCC got one back one back in the top of the third. Right fielder Billy Harmon (Racine, OH/Southern Local) got the offense going with a double and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. First baseman Yordangel Gonzalez (Miami, FL/Miami Jackson Senior HS) drove in Harmon with a single.

 

Pitcher Riley Piazza (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) earned the loss on the mound, giving up seven hits and seven runs. Zach Rohlin (Russell, PA/Eisenhower HS) went the rest o the way, giving up five runs on four hits while striking out three batters.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action on Saturday, March 26th, as they travel to Tompkins Cortland Community College for their first Region 3 West games of the season.
