JAMESTOWN, NY - Jamestown Community College (JCC) continues to revamp its Physical Education (PHED) Complex with the addition of brand new batting cages. "I can't hide the smile on my face," said Athletic Director George Sisson. "We want to give our Jayhawk student-athletes the best possible experience we can while at JCC, whether this is in the classroom or the gym. These new batting cages and subsequent upgrades to our facility will certainly do that for our baseball and softball teams," he added.
The new equipment is phase two of an overall facelift of the PHED Complex. This summer, the gym floor was resurfaced and now features a spectacular JCC Jayhawk logo crossing center court.
These upgrades give the baseball and softball programs a home to hit, throw, and workout that is their own within the gym.
"We spend close to three, maybe four, months inside in the winter. We can't go outside, we can't throw. So, we need the cages to do long toss and keep our arms in check. We hit daily for two hours almost. The turf is really nice for weight lifting and the new equipment coming in. This is really an amazing upgrade," said JCC sophomore outfielder Mitchell McKinney.
"This will help a lot. It will get up, especially when the turf is down, we won't have to work around other schedules. This will be our area to work with. It will give us a lot more time, a lot more hours to get our swings in and get ready for the spring," said JCC sophomore catcher Jax Arcuri.
The upgrades also include new weightlifting equipment, upgrades to the aquatic center, and practice rooms for the wrestling and golf programs.
