JAMESTOWN, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) baseball team added to its list of tough losses Thursday night as they dropped a pair to Erie Community College (ECC), 3-2 and 4-2. This makes five of ten of the Jayhawks losses coming by two or fewer runs.
In game one, JCC jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on a Santino Musone RBI single that scored Yadiel Garcia. On the mound, Dylan Kinney, who entered the game with a zero ERA, was great once again, allowing just two earned runs to keep Jamestown competitive. That 1-0 lead held until the fifth, when ECC scored a pair to take the lead at 2-1. The Jayhawks rallied quickly as Gabe Roth knocked in Kenneth Madrid in the bottom half of the inning. That evened the game at 2-2, which held until the top of the 7th. That is where the Kats scored the winning run on a sac fly. The 3-2 defeat put Jamestown back to 8-9 on the year.
JCC didn't have time to sulk as game two started just 30 minutes later. This one was scoreless heading into the fourth, where ECC grabbed a 1-0 advantage on a bloop single off of Kolden McCall, who pitched another gem, allowing one earned run through five innings. JCC saw its deficit grow to 2-0 on an infield play that Jamestown couldn't make at first. Just like in game one, Jamestown was able to rally in the 5th; Musone drove in a run with a single to make it 2-1. That was followed up by a sac fly from Luke Larson to tie the game at 2-2. Unfortunately for the Jayhawks, Erie was able to drive in a run in both the sixth and seventh for the final score of 4-2.
The two setbacks bring JCC's record to 8-10 on the year.
Jamestown is set to be back on the diamond on Saturday, April 5th, as they visit SUNY Niagara for a doubleheader at 1:00 PM.
