JAMESTOWN, NY - Jamestown Community College's Josh Martos (Oakland Park, FL / Calvary Christian Academy) is continuing his academic and athletic careers at Fredonia State University.
"When I went to visit Fredonia, I loved the campus and the coaches. They seemed very interested in me for their program, and they have a culture and tools that I know will elevate my game," said Martos.
The Florida native pitched almost 70 innings for the Jayhawks over his two seasons, where he racked up 52 strikeouts and won five games.
"Coach Jerico really elevated my game with his style of coaching. Jerico is a baseball mind unlike any that I have ever met. He gave me the chance to succeed and really show what I can do," he added.
Josh plans to major in sport management when he makes the short trip up Route 60 from Jamestown to Fredonia.
"JCC and Coach Weitzel both prepared me academically for this move by one, Jerico making me go to class and actually keep my grades up in order to be eligible, and two, JCC's Sport Management program has prepared me to excel in any path I choose to go down thanks to all my professors who want to see us succeed," mentioned Martos.
Martos is another one of the large group of Jayhawk baseball players to reside in the Sunshine State, but it was his time with all his JCC brothers that was the most impactful while in green and gold.
"Honestly, my favorite memory as a Jayhawk would have to be just going on road trips with my boys Meatball (Troy Moussette) and Peanut (Jax Arcuri). There was never a quiet moment with those guys on the vans," said Martos.
That leads right into what Martos will miss most about his time at JCC.
"My friends and the memories I made there. I will forever be a Jayhawk," smiled Martos.
Martos and the rest of his Blue Devil teammates report to campus in August, with fall ball starting shortly thereafter.
