JCC Stumbles Out of the Blocks as Baseball Drops Four Games at Hocking

NELSONVILLE, OH - It wasn't for a lack of effort, but the Jamestown Community College (JCC) baseball team started the season 0-4, with a pair of doubleheader losses at Hocking College on Friday and Saturday.

The Jayhawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in their season opener before surrendering five runs in the bottom of the third to fall behind 5-2. JCC would get a run back in the top half of the fourth, but that was as close as they could get before losing 8-3. Sophomore Santino Musone is on record for the loss despite striking out seven batters.

In game two, Jamestown once again grabbed an early lead, scoring a run in the top of the first. That was as good as it would get, with the Jayhawks allowing seven runs in the third and four in the fourth to lose 13-2. Sophomore Kolden McCall took the loss to open his season on the mound.

After a night to rebound, Jamestown and Hocking were back on the diamond on Saturday. Once again the Jayhawks grabbed a quick edge, scoring two in the first and three in the second for a 5-2 advantage. JCC would squander that lead by allowing four runs in the bottom of the third. The Jayhawks trailed 9-8 in the final inning before knocking in a pair to take a 10-9 lead to the bottom of the seventh. That's when trouble once again found JCC, allowing two runs to drop another one, 11-10. Freshman Berk Gezlev tossed the final 3.1 innings for the loss.

The theme of grabbing an early lead continued in the finale of the four-game set, as JCC scored a pair in the top of the first, but Hocking jumped out to a 6-2 score by the end of the inning en route to a 17-7 Jamestown defeat. Ryan Stubbs suffered the loss in his first outing of the year.

JCC now turns its attention to a week-long trip to Florida, where they will play eight games in five days, starting on Tuesday, March 10th.
