WINTER HAVEN, FL - The winning ways for Jamestown Community College (JCC) athletics continued in Florida, with the baseball team opening their spring trip with a two-game sweep of Minnesota State Community and Technical College at the Chain of Lakes Park Complex.
JCC sent Santino Musone to the bump in the first game, where he picked up the win after five strong innings. Jamestown blew the game open in the 5th when they plated eight runs, the final two RBIs coming off the bat of Angel Perez, who had a dynamite day at the dish. The Jayhawks would take a 9-6 lead to the 7th, where they pushed three more runs home to take a six-run lead. That 12-6 advantage ended up being the final in game one to give Jamestown a fantastic start to their eight games in five days in the Sunshine State.
Game two, also against the Spartans, was a nail-biter to the end. JCC fell behind early, 1-0, but the deficit didn't last long, as sophomore Tamias Ramsey smoked the offering to deep center for a one-run double to even things up at 1-1. He was followed by fellow sophomore Matt Cardona, who drove Ramsey in with a well-placed single to shallow right-center, giving the Jayhawks a 2-1 advantage. JCC would fall behind 4-2 entering the 3rd before Jackson Shannon evened things up with a two-run double, then Ramsey once again drove a run in with a single, and the home standing Jayhawks jumped back out front 5-4. The scoreboard showed a 5-5 time going into the bottom of the 6th, when Perez launched the offering to deep center for a no-doubt-about-it home run to push the Birds to a 6-5 lead. On the mound, Berk Gezlev threw a well-executed complete game for the victory, with that 6-5 final.
The Jayhawks don't have long to celebrate, with a doubleheader against Northland Community & Technical College at Lake Myrtle Park Field 7 in Auburndale, Florida, scheduled to begin at 3:15 PM.
