CANANDAIGUA, NY - One of the most unlikely trends you'll find continues for the Jamestown Community College (JCC) baseball team as they've now split five straight doubleheaders dating back to the beginning of their time in Florida. The latest was a second two-game tussle with Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC) at the Lakers' diamond.
In game one, JCC fell behind 2-0 after the 1st inning but cut the deficit in half in the 3rd inning when Tamias Ramsey scored on a wild pitch to make it a 2-1 ballgame. Everything fell apart for the Jayhawks in the bottom half of the 3rd, where FLCC scored eight to make it a 10-1 score. Jamestown was able to push a run across the plate in the 4th on a double from Seth Ranieri, but the Lakers then added four more when they were at the dish for the final score of 14-2.
The script was flipped in game two, with Jamestown scoring five runs in the top of the 1st. A bases-loaded walk to Tyler Skura got the Jayhawks on the board before Angel Perez smacked a two-run single for a 3-0 advantage. After a Jackson Shannon sac fly made it 4-0, Cadyn Wilson singled to score Perez, and before you could find your seat, it was 5-0 JCC. FLCC put up a run in the 2nd, but a single from Skura placed the lead back at five, at 6-1. It was 6-3 going to the bottom half of the 4th, and that's where JCC started to flex at the plate. First, Santino Musone doubled home Anthony Tolentino. A couple more runs came in on Lakers' errors, leading to Bryce Bedrosian singling in Perez once again for a 10-3 scoreboard. Jamestown put this game to bed in the 5th and 6th innings, racking up nine runs in those two innings. It started with Musone crushing a two-run homer for a 12-4 edge in the 5th. In the 6th, Tolentino, Musone, Perez, and Shannon all had at least one RBI for the eventually final of 18-4. On the mound, Julian Roman was fantastic in relief, throwing three innings of scoreless ball, with four strikeouts.
The split moves JCC to 7-9 overall, 2-2 in regional play.
Jamestown is back on the diamond Wednesday, March 25th, at 5:00 PM, when they visit Houghton College.
