BUFFALO, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) baseball team opened conference play at Erie Community College (ECC) with a doubleheader on Saturday. Those games were originally scheduled to take place at Diethrick Park but were moved up I-90 due to weather-related issues.
In game one, JCC suffered a heartbreaker, falling 8-7 in extra innings. The Jayhawks grabbed an early lead off of an RBI double from Anthony Tolentino, but JCC allowed five runs in the bottom of the 3rd to fall behind 5-1. It was a 6-2 deficit heading to the 6th, where Jamestown's bats came to life. Jackson Shannon started things with an RBI single, followed by an RBI single from Luke Larson to make it a 6-4 game. Jamestown saw three more runs score with Seth Ranieri, Josue Rosario, and Tyler Skura at the plate for a 7-6 advantage. That lead held into the bottom of the 7th when the Kats tied things up at 7-7. JCC lost the ball game in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 8th, 807.
Game two had the same nail-biter feel, with Erie taking an early 2-0 lead, but Jamestown bounced back in the 3rd with a pair of RBIs from Tyler Skura and Angel Perez to even the game at 2-2. That score held to the 5th, where ECC tacked on a run for a 3-2 score. It was in the 6th where the Kats broke it open, scoring three runs to make it a 6-2 game, which ended up as the final.
The pair of losses moves Jamestown to 8-11 overall and 0-2 in WNYAC play.
Jamestown and Erie are right back at it on Thursday, April 9th, at 2:00 PM as the Jayhawks welcome the Kats to Diethrick Park.
