JCC's Joey Valerio Continues his Basketball Career at Penn State York

JAMESTOWN, NY - Jamestown Community College's Joey Valerio (Chagrin Falls, OH / University School) is continuing his academic and athletic careers at Penn State York.

"After talking with Coach Rotonda and taking a visit, I immediately felt that it was a good environment with a winning culture as well as good academic goals," said Valerio.

The forward appeared in 42 games for the Jayhawks, starting 12, and was a team captain as a sophomore. 

"I think that through my two years playing under Coach X (Xavier Churnac), I was able to learn how to play a role and work on specific abilities to play that role effectively," he added.

He plans to major in corporate communications while in the Keystone State.

"JCC prepared me for this move by teaching me how to manage school life with athletic and social life," mentioned Valerio.

Valerio averaged six points and three rebounds as a sophomore. He also averaged four points and three rebounds in a pair of huge upsets for JCC, which led to his most memorable moments in green and gold.

"My best memory as a Jayhawk would have to be beating Erie and Monroe in back-to-back games in front of a home crowd," said a happy Valerio.

Valerio and his fellow Penn State York hoopers start the 2025-26 season in November.
