Jayhawks Downed by the Catamounts

JAMESTOWN -  In a rematch against WVU Potomac State College Sunday afternoon at the Post-Journal Classic, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team lost 71-51.

 

The Jayhawks (6-5) were led by guard D'Auzhanay Harden (Erie, PA/Erie HS) recorded her first collegiate double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds (2 offense, 10 defense) with guard Destiny Evans (Peoria, IL/Lorian HS) scoring a team-high 14 points. Guard Jessica Beehler (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) chipped in with 13 points in the effort. Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, NY/Cleveland Heights) had another strong effort, grabbing 11 rebounds (4 offense, 7 defense) and rejecting seven shots.

 

JCC found themselves down 41-27 at the break and with some halftime adjustments, they came out in the third quarter ready to play.

 

In a four minute span, the Jayhawks went on a 15-2 run to cut the deficit to five with two minutes left in the quarter. Beehler played a pivotal role in the spurt, contributing 10 points including a pair of three-pointers.

 

The Catamounts put together a strong fourth quarter to put away the game, outscoring JCC 19-4.

 

On the day, the Jayhawks went 20-for-67 (29.9 percent) from the field with WVU Potomac State going 22-for-58 (37.9 percent) from the floor.

 

The teams were close on the boards with JCC having the slight edge, 47-45. The Jayhawks did take advantage of their extra opportunities on offense, scoring 12 second chance points to the Catamounts' two points.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Tuesday, December 7th, as they host Corning Community College at the Olean Campus with a 7:30 p.m. tip.
