Stevens' Double-Double Not Enough as the Jayhawks Drops Game to Herkimer

HERKIMER – Wrapping up their final road game of the semester, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team was edged out by Herkimer College Sunday morning, 68-63.

 

The Jayhawks (7-8) had another strong outing from Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) as she recorded her seventh double-double of the season, scoring 13 points and grabbing 17 rebounds (7 offense, 10 defense). Freshman guard Zalika Stevens (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Thornlea Secondary School) had her first double-double of her collegiate career, scoring 13 points while grabbing 12 rebounds (5 offense, 7 defense) to go along with six assists. Kymi Nance (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) led all scorers for JCC, netting 16 points.

 

The teams were at a deadlock throughout the first quarter of action, tied at 14-14. In the second quarter, the Generals were able to get out to a 35-27 lead going into the break. Coming out of halftime, the Jayhawks outscored Herkimer 18-10 in the third frame to tie the game at 45-45 heading into the final quarter.

 

JCC went 22-for-63 (34.9 percent) from the floor while the Generals shot 21-for-69 (30.4 percent) from the field. The Jayhawks held the advantage on the glass, out rebounding Herkimer 48-41.

 

The Jayhawks will be back home this Thursday, December 16th, as they take on Lakeland Community College at 5:00 p.m.
